This Month, Learning professional from the banking world, Janice from London speaks to Coffee Corners about her career highlights and gives advice to our budding community.

Q: Tell us about your role?

A: I currently work within the Learning team of an Investment Bank.  It’s the first time I have worked in this space so it has led to a lot of learning for me personally.   All of our roles are fairly flexible around the needs of the business’ we support which means we are able to input into a variety of diverse projects within the bank.

Q: How did you get to the position you are in?

A: I am very fortunate to work for a business that supports internal mobility and I was lucky to be put forward for the current role I am in.

Q: What made you chose a career in Learning?

A: It wasn’t something I had considered, however, a lot of what I have done throughout my career has touched the learning space.  I was a PA for the majority of my office-based working life and through working on different programmes was exposed to the ever evolving Learning team within our company.  The team had only been running for about a year and needed a resource with established relationships to work with the division I had been working in – which provided the perfect fit.

Q: Are there any role specific qualifications?

A: This is dependent on the role you play in the team.  Our team is made up of people with varied backgrounds and qualifications, but the one passion we share is enabling individuals within the business to develop and play to their strengths.

Q: What has been your biggest career challenge?

A: A project that I started in 2017 which was heavily admin/logistics and people dependent would have to be the biggest and also most fun challenge I have had within the business. There were highs, lows and frustrations but I worked alongside a great team who were epic and always encouraging.

Q: What has been your biggest career highlight?

A: Received a Z-Tale award from my colleagues in recognition for the above mentioned project.  It was a privilege being part of the team.

Q: What advice would you give to our Coffee Corner followers?

A: You are never too old to follow your dreams.  Follow what lights a fire inside you, that inspires you, and teaches you along the way.

Thank you Janice for being our Woman of the Month!
